A look at Ball’s integrated bracelet sports watch – the Roadmaster Perseverer
If you’re talented enough to be able to build something as innovative as the groundbreaking Model T automobile, you’ll need a trusty timekeeping instrument to help you complete the brief. The founder of the Ford Motor Company, Henry Ford, did just that, and to accompany him, he chose a Ball pocket watch. It was tuned to Webb. C Ball’s standards of accuracy – criteria he outlined not only to maintain precision on America’s railroad systems but also for the civilian seeking efficiency and reliability in a watch. His automobile manufacture liberated the human spirit and unleashed a new form of exploration. His contributions made an indelible mark on the world of manufacturing, just as Ball watches revolutionised the world of timekeeping.

And, in the same way that Ford’s automobiles were crafted to exacting standards and subjected to the most stringent of quality tests, so too are Ball’s impeccable timepieces. Therefore, it makes perfect sense that Ball further strengthens its watchmaking future by drawing inspiration from the work of Ford and the relationship between the car manufacturer and watchmaking, as seen in the Roadmaster Perseverance.
Features of the Ball Roadmaster Perseverer
The Roadmaster Perseverer sets itself apart from the rest of the watchmaker’s impressive portfolio. It offers a particularly clean and crisp dial for timekeeping throughout the day and even long into the night, thanks to its innovative micro gas tube technology (more on that shortly). But predominantly, the design of the Roadmaster Perseverer focuses on three key elements: toughness, accuracy, and legibility. Moreover, its release marked the point by which Ball went integrated with its bracelet designs. For those with a penchant for the steel sports watch but are looking for elevated luminosity and toughness in a watch, the Ball Roadmaster Perseverer should have a solid chance of working its way into an enthusiast’s top ten integrated bracelet collection.
Accuracy
The Chronometer Manufacture Caliber RRM7309-C powers the Ball Roadmaster Perseverer. It’s an in-house movement that has been assembled, tested and inspected by technicians at Ball’s ateliers, promising a superb accuracy of -2/+4 seconds per day. Some examples of its mechanical brilliance, which can be observed through the rear side of the watch via a sapphire crystal exhibition case back, include ribbing, perlage and spiral patterns. All the while, the automatic movement can provide a staggering 80 hours of power reserve once fully wound, enabling it to be alternated with other timepieces without losing a second when away from the wrist.

Toughness
The Ball Roadmaster Perseverer, being the versatile timepiece that it is, is available in three different dial colours, all adorned with a horizontal surface pattern that adds another layer of detail and depth to the design. The ice blue colour is particularly fetching and is reminiscent of the ever-popular Tiffany blue dial. The other two colours comprise dark blue and black – both of which are slightly more classic in comparison to the modern ice blue iteration. Even so, each dial is framed by a robust 914L stainless steel case that measures either 40mm or 43mm in diameter. Suffice to say, the latter is a broad sports watch, but one that benefits from design features like the tapering tonneau-shaped case and the ergonomically formed links, designed to hug the contours of the wrist snugly. The case ensures extreme hardness whilst providing comfort in any situation.

Legibility
Those familiar with Ball Watch Company will be well aware of its contributions to watch luminosity. Its micro gas tubes are a horological feat, to say the least, and come in a myriad of colours, allowing watches like the Roadmaster Perseverer to carry two personalists – a classic sports watch in the daytime and a rugged, legible night-vision instrument once dark falls. Each hour baton on a Ball watch comprises a miniature tube of tritium and a phosphor-coated lining. When the tritium releases electrons, they interact with the powder, creating a bright and constant glow. This is how Ball watches work, demonstrating a continuous glow throughout the night. These gas tubes are always glowing, even though you can’t always see them. Ball equips the double baton hour marker at 12 o’clock with orange luminosity, while the remainder of the hour track is represented in green glowing tritium, ensuring uncompromised luminosity wherever you are and whatever you’re doing.

The Ball Roadmaster Perseverer, as its name suggests, is a symbol of perseverance and has been designed for those who never give up.
