Who is Oris?
In 1904 in the Swiss town of Holstein, Paul Cattin and Georges Christian brought out the freshly closed Lohner & Co watch factory. Under the new name Oris, named after nearby brook, the factory began manufacturing their very own collections of watches. It wasn’t long before the brand became the largest employer in Holstein with over 300 workers engineering everything from bracelet buckles, pocket watches to fully-fledged wristwatches. 1939 was a pivotal year for the Swiss watch manufacturer with the launch of the Oris Big Crown watch, a pilot’s instrument with an oversized crown designed to aid pilots even while they wore thick gloves in the cockpit.
Over the next few years, Oris would continue to make history launching their own in-house movement, their first 100 metres water resistant diving watch and the first Oris chronometer. Today, all these milestones continue to lay the foundation of the Oris watch brand as seen in their best-selling collections like the Oris Aquis, Oris Big Crown, Oris Sixty Five Divers and Oris ProPilot.
