Founded in 1860, the company began as a watchmaking shop in Florence Italy. The devastating effects of a large flood within the premises have made the history of the brand difficult to interpret, yet Panerai’s relationship with the Italian Navy was well documented during the 1940s onwards. Famous models like the Luminor and Radiomir became famous for their luminous elements. Radiomir, the first of the brand’s luminous materials, was later replaced by Luminor and, along with the brand’s large crown protecting bridge, have come to be some of the brand’s most recognised hallmarks.
