Introducing the new Bell & Ross BR-05 GMT Sky Blue Watch

2023 has proved to be yet another year for experimenting with colours for many leading luxury watch brands. La Chaux de Fonds watchmaker, Bell & Ross continues to enjoy the ongoing trend for colourful watches with the release of its new Sky Blue version of the BR-05 model - and it’s the perfect addition to any summer wardrobe!

The BR-05 watch collection by Bell & Ross is the manufacturer’s take on the steel sports watch. It steers away from the norm with its instantly recognisable circle within a square shape – a profile that the Swiss company has used affluently throughout its range of instrument panel-inspired timepieces. The BR 05 has all the traits expected of a steel sports watch. The models from the range feature anti-glare sapphire crystal glass fronts, clear, legible dials, integrated stainless steel bracelets, 100-meter water resistance, and reliable automatic movements. Bell & Ross has extended the line over the years to accommodate a GMT feature, a skeletonised model and a chronograph complication. Earlier this year, the company released an all-new design as an extension to this popular line. The BR-X5 featured a new case construction that took years to develop, along with a new COSC-certified movement developed by Kenissi. The two 41mm models were presented in a rich black dial and an ice blue dial – each with an option to enjoy on a rubber band or stainless steel bracelet. The Ice Blue watch in particular, was a striking colourway that would look great on the wrist during the winter months but evoke a cool beach vibe during the summer season. Along that same vein, Bell & Ross has played with a new shade of blue to create its new BR-05 GMT Sky Blue watch. Let’s take a look at its key features in more detail.

As blue as the sky

If only we had more of the blue stuff here in Great Britain. Fortunately for us who don’t get to experience clear blue skies very often, we have the BR-05 GMT Sky Blue watch to serve as a reminder on our wrist. The new BR-05 watch celebrates the coming together of the sky and the blue planet, combining the technicality and the functionality of the aeronautics world and the brand’s many instrument panel-inspired pieces with natural elements. Perfect for the city dweller, the traveller or any fan of the famous circle within a square case construction, Bell & Ross has equipped this watch with a dual time function that enables you to track the time in two locations at once. The clear and simple dial display is perfect for any globetrotter, showing the hour markers and the hands legibly during the day and night. To assist with the latter, these elements have been treated with Super-LumiNova material, which glows richly at night so that you can track the time back at home or in your current destination whether on a night flight or waking with the rising sun. To track the second time zone, you simply reference the triangular GMT hand with the sky blue and silver, satin-brushed and rhodium-plated details on a 24-hour scale around the flange. This two-tone scale makes it super easy to differentiate the hours of the day and night effectively. Aside from this, the hour track is represented by pill-shaped hour markers, minute dash markers, and large Arabic numerals located at 12, 6 and 9 o’clock. Taking the place of the 3 o’clock Arabic numeral is a date window, positioned against a bright white background for enhanced readability.

The new Bell & Ross BR-05 GMT Sky Blue watch is powered by the BR-CAL.325 calibre based on a Sellita movement and can be admired through the back of a sapphire exhibition feature on the reverse of the watch’s case. It offers a superb view of the 360° rotations of the oscillating weight. The movement also provides a 38-hour power reserve and performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The GMT Sky Blue watch also measures a diameter of 41mm and is fitted on an integrated stainless steel bracelet with articulated links that are executed in a brushed finish. The second option is a dark blue rubber strap that compliments the sky-inspired blue hue of the dial. This option secures comfortably to the wrist with a folding clasp crafted from stainless steel bearing the iconic Bell & Ross logo.

Closing thoughts

The BR-05 GMT Sky Blue watch certainly perpetuates the round dial within a square case with more rounded curves than the BR-03 and encompasses the brand pillars set out when the watchmaker first began; performance, precision, readability and water resistance. The caseband flows into the integrated bracelet seamlessly in a design that has been burning the midnight oil for some years at the brand’s headquarters. Experts at Bell & Ross have been thinking of new ways to extend on the design’s concept with examples like the BR-X5 and several coloured versions of the BR-05 watch since its initial release. The new kid in town, with its sky-blue-inspired colour palette, is sure to be an instant winner for those looking to expand their already existing BR-05 watch collection, as well as those new to collecting the popular steel sports watch.
