Watch Trends: 2019 is Turning Green

Every year at Jura Watches, we enjoy seeing new evolving brands try to stake their place in the watch world, while existing brands try to break the mould with new and exciting products of their own. It’s a cut-throat industry, no doubt.

Amidst all of the efforts to try and produce something new, it’s always interesting to notice trends start to appear among brands. In recent years, the era of bronze watches began, with special editions popping up from brands including Oris, TAG Heuer and Maurice LaCroix to name but a few.

In the last year, a simpler, but equally striking trend has begun to emerge – the colour green.

It’s a daring colour to opt for, often difficult to pair with certain materials such as ceramics or golds, but this year, there seems to be no end to the release of stunning green watches.

In no particular order, here are a few of our favourites!

Seiko Prospex Sumo Green SPB103J1

This little number was unveiled this year at Baselworld. It features a powerful automatic movement, housed inside a steel case, with of course, a green dial and bezel. It follows the hugely popular – and also green - 1968 limited edition watch that was released last year.

BR0392-D-G-BR/SCA bell & ross bronze green diver

Holding onto the bronze trend tightly, the latest BR 03 from Bell and Ross features a khaki green dial and bezel. Paired with a distressed leather strap, it offers the perfect combination between a modern divers watch and a classic timepiece.

AB0118A11L1X1 breitling premier b01

Ok, so this one was actually released at the back-end of 2018, but Breitling are often ahead of the curve when it comes to trends, and this incredible chronograph was just too attractive to leave out. It uses a green dial and green strap combo that screams to be noticed. If it’s a bit too much, there is also a bracelet version available – but why not go all the way?

£6,700.00

Following on from the success of the 2018 bronze Kontiki, Eterna have dipped their toes in the green pond with this 2019 version. Although very dark, the hint of colour to the dial and bezel gives this watch a new depth that its predecessor didn’t have, and it looks perfect when paired with the bronze case and leather strap.

£2,720.00

Sticking to its roots in the world of motorsport, Reservoir joined the trend by opting for a British Racing Green dial. The striking colour has been matched up with a polished steel case and alligator leather strap – not to mention Reservoir’s signature ‘speedometer’ aesthetic appeal.

£3,500.00

The prospect of combining a green dial with steel lugs, black bezel with bronze surround and leather strap sounds like it would be a little too much – but this incredible Divers Sixty-Five from Oris makes it work perfectly. It instantly stood out when it was shown to us at Baselworld and it will without doubt be one of the most popular models if the year.

Last – but certainly not least – we were stunned again by TAG Heuer as they released their new range of Autavia timepieces, but this little green and bronze combo caught out eye the most. Subtle tones from the case and dial make for a match made in heaven, and it looks even better on the wrist.
