TAG Heuer Returns to the Race Track for F1’s 75th Anniversary

TAG Heuer steers its way towards the fast lane once more as it retains its role as Official Partner to Formula 1, marking the sport’s 75th anniversary

Watches and motorsport – is there any better duo than that? Of all the sports that timekeeping is crucial to, no sport is quite as dependent on precise 1/100th second timings as F1 racing. For those who love both watches and racing, however, the connection runs much deeper, particularly if they happen to be an avid TAG fan, because the Swiss watchmaker is driving straight towards the victory lane once more as it secures another year as Official Partner to the sport.

TAG Heuer and F1’s Love Affair

TAG Heuer has been closely connected to the world of motorsport for decades, innovating the iconic Monaco and inaugural Carrera. Its relationship with F1, in particular, makes for an even more interesting relationship, having made connections to several notable teams and drivers over the years. These roots run as far back as F1 driver Jochen Rindt, for example, who sported the Autavia on his wrist whilst securing his 1970s World Driver’s and Constructors’ Championships victory with Lotus. In 1971, the watchmaker worked closely with Ferrari and even developed a timing device called the Le Mans Centigraph for Italian racing cars. After this partnership ended, another began. TAG Heuer cemented a fruitful collaboration with McLaren before becoming the Official Timekeeper for Formula 1 in 2003.

What’s To Come In 2025?

But that didn’t mark the end of TAG Heuer’s relations with F1. It continued as a major sponsor for McLaren until 2015 before joining the Red Bull Racing Team. What’s more, the brand became associated with talented driver Max Verstappen. This year, TAG will continue to have a presence both on and off the track as it becomes the Official Timekeeper for Formula 1 once more. Along with trackside branding, which includes Paddock Club and Fan Zone, the Swiss manufacturer has also hinted at new product ranges. In addition to this, its partnership with Oracle Red Bull will continue. This extended collaboration coincides with the sport's 75th anniversary, which replaced Rolex ten years ago.

As it cements this continued partnership with Formula 1, TAG Heuer intends to connect more with a new generation of fans, which could hint at new watch designs for those eagerly anticipating something new and altogether exciting from the brand. Looking back on some of the company’s most significant moments in F1 history, TAG Heuer witnessed Lewis Hamilton’s first championship in 2008, not to mention multiple championships with Red Bull Racing, which are sure to inspire these watches. Already, we’ve been treated to two new releases, and if those reflect what’s to come, we’re in for a real treat this year.

There couldn’t be a better time for TAG Heuer to solidify its connections to the world of F1 and drive full throttle at campaigns guaranteed to put the brand in the spotlight again because the motorsport industry is experiencing record viewership right now. To instil a sense of traditional mechanical timekeeping into the hearts of professional drivers and racing enthusiasts, TAG Heuer plans to draw from its heritage in F1 to strengthen and grow its identity in this capacity. In particular, the watchmaker can look back on ingenious creations like the Mikrograph and the Calibre 11 automatic chronograph movement, which established the watchmaker as a natural leader in Formula 1.

What Do We Hope To See?

Without a doubt, the mere thought of TAG Heuer hinting at new watch designs is sending fans into horological hysteria. The new product lines are sure to reflect the brand’s motorsport heritage while incorporating design elements from the company’s archives. At the same time, we expect to see the cutting-edge technology and built-to-last engineering that we have come to associate so inextricably with the brand. New for the brand is the Formula 1 Chronograph watch reference CBZ2082.FT8096 fired up for the racing track with its ergonomically crafted lightweight grade 2 titanium case. Red lacquered elements on the watch’s black opaline dial inject a sense of adrenaline into the design whilst, at the same time, guaranteeing readability. Even in the dark, the Super-LumiNova-treated hands and indexes promise uncompromised legibility. These are framed by a DLC-coated tachymeter bezel for measuring speed based on distance, highlighting TAG’s motorsport heritage. Completing its bold racing-ready style is a black rubber band that’s good for moments behind the wheel or hours spent at the side of the track. This new release is powered by the Calibre 16 for precise chronograph timings.

This TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph x Oracle Red Bull Racing watch reference CBZ2080.FT8091 pays homage to the watchmaker’s partnership with the racing team in time for the F1 2025 event with a motorsport-inspired dial featuring a chequered opaline dial, red highlights and sporty yellow accents. The sporty black-filled chronograph counters, along with the hands, mirror the high-octane atmosphere of the racetrack with luminous-coated hands and indexes that promise legibility. TAG experts equip this lightweight titanium watch with a supple blue rubber band that can handle the toughest environments, as can the Calibre 16. The movement is a self-winding engine that performs at 28,800 vibrations per hour, promising a power reserve of 42 hours once fully wound. In true TAG Heuer style, the back of the titanium screwed-in case features a special engraving of the Oracle Red Bull lettering.
