Junghans Meister Chronoscope Terrassenbau Watch Review

A spectacular watch for a spectacular building. The Junghans Meister Chronoscope Terrassenbau is designed to pay tribute to the Terrace building in Schramberg. The architectural masterpiece was created by Philipp Jakob Manz 100 years ago and came to life on it’s sloping site in less than two years to accommodate the largest clock manufacturer in the world at the start of the 20th century.

As you can imagine, the demand for a Junghans watch was so great, it was difficult to find space to build workplaces in an already jam-packed valley. The result was the nine-stepped terrace building that used the slope to its advantage and allowed for each watchmaker to enjoy the benefits of direct sunlight. It became the central hub of the Junghans factory, particularly during the 50s and 60s where calibres were developed.

With such a fond history, that has played such an integral role in the progression of the brand over the years, Junghans release the limited edition in honour of the architectural beauty that turns 100 this year. To mark this special birthday the Meister Chronoscope Terrassenbau is limited to only 100 pieces.

The beautiful champagne dial takes inspiration from the stairways of the terrace building with their beige and white colouring. Framed in an 18ct gold case the design is truly exquisite. Alternatively, opt for a stainless steel case, which is made to a limitation of 1000 pieces. The red minute track that circles the dial mirrors the winding design that decorates the walls of the terrace building. Green tiles that follow the stairways influenced the colour of the beautiful alligator leather strap that compliments the watch face so beautifully. Turn the limited edition to find an engraving of the striking, distinctive architecture that will celebrate its centenary year this year.

The Meister range has become an iconic design by Junghans since its conception in the 1930s. It was the perfect piece to pay to tribute to such a masterpiece with its harmonious proportions and elegant aesthetic.
