Ball Watch Company Pays Tribute To Wright Brothers

Ball Watch Company has presented the Trainmaster First Flight, a limited edition watch created in tribute to the 110th anniversary of the Wright brothers' first flight.

After many years of aeronautical research, Wilbur and Orville Wright successfully developed the first motorised airborne vehicle, and on December 17th 1903 made the world's first ever motorised flight in North Carolina, USA.

"Aviation has always relied upon the most reliable, accurate and resistant instruments. Watchmaking is no exception," the brand says. "It was therefore only natural that Ball Watch Company chose to celebrate the 110th anniversary of Flyer's first flight by creating the Trainmaster First Flight."

The Ball Watch Company Trainmaster First Flight has a 41 mm stainless steel case and a black dial decorated with elegant vertical lines. It has a polished bezel, and an anti-reflective sapphire crystal. The transparent sapphire crystal case back reveals the movement mechanism, and features a silk-screen printed design of Flyer's first flight, as well as an engraving of the watch's individual limited edition number.

The timepiece is powered by the automatic Ball 651 calibre, based on an ETA 2892 movement. The movement was modified by Ball to include a large date display and a second time zone sub-dial.

To ensure visibility in total darkness, the twelve markers on the dial and main hands are fitted with micro tubes containing luminescent 3H gas. This technology is up to 100 times more effective then conventional luminescent paint, and requires no external light or energy sources.

The Trainmaster First Flight is limited to 600 pieces, and comes with a crocodile leather strap or stainless steel bracelet. It is presented in a custom leather pouch, inspired by the briefcases used by pilots in the early days of aviation. The pouch also includes a genuine navigation plotter with the Ball logo.
