Corum Watches Awards Special Timepiece to Jules Verne Trophy Winners

Corum has awarded special edition watches to the new winners of the Jules Verne Trophy, a timed non-stop sailing trip around the world.

As partner and Official Timekeeper of the sailing adventure, Corum supported the 14 crew members of the Maxi BanquePopulaire V as they set a new reference time of 45 days, 13 hours, 42 minutes, 53 seconds.
The Jules Verne Trophy is a prize for the fastest round the world trip, open to crews of any size and with no restrictions on the yacht used. To successfully take on the challenge the team must follow a set route without stops or help, propelled only by natural forces. The previous record was 48 days, 7 hours, 44 minutes, 52 seconds, set in 2010 by Groupama 3.

Last week Corum invited the Maxi BanquePopulaire V crew to a celebration of their achievements at La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland. Each member of the team was awarded a special watch in honour of their prestigious victory: the Trophée Jules Verne 2011-2012.
Corum describes the watch as a "powerful symbol that is destined to be a reliable, lifelong companion."
The Trophée Jules Verne 2011-2012 is a special edition of the Admirals Cup Seafender 48 Chrono Centro, featuring an engraving of the sailing route on the case back, and the record breaking time on the side of the case. The crew members' watches were also personalised with their names.

The Maxi BanquePopulaire V crew was led by Loïck Peyron, sailor and brand ambassador for Corum. "When tackling time head-on, it is advisable to be well-equipped," Peyron said. "We would like to thank Corum for their unfailing support as well as the Banque Populaires for their loyalty. The entire team is immensely proud to wear such a powerful symbol of an incredible adventure on their wrists."

Thierry Bouvard, head of sponsorship for the Banque Populaires, commended Corum for "immortalising this great victory", saying: "We are delighted to have worked with a brand that has been sharing the values of sailing and offshore racing for a number of years."
