Basel Review New Watches from Hamilton

Khaki Navy Pioneer

Hamilton is celebrating 120 years of timekeeping with the release of the Khaki Navy Pioneer Limited Edition.

Inspired by the brand's maritime history, the limited edition piece is a contemporary interpretation of the Hamilton marine chronometers produced in the 1940s.

An original 1940s Hamilton marine chronometer

The Khaki Navy Pioneer doubles as a wristwatch and table clock. Owners can choose to display the timepiece as a clock, keeping it in the Pará rubber tree wooden presentation box, or attach it to the brown leather strap (stored within the box) to wear on the wrist.

The watch is powered by a Swiss-made, hand-winding mechanical movement, and is water resistant to 100 metres. The stainless steel case measures 46.5 mm, and the dial is silver-coloured with a velvet finish.

The Khaki Navy Pioneer is limited to 1,892 pieces (a reference to the brand's foundation year) and will launch in November 2012 for approximately £1,800.

Khaki X-Patrol

The Hamilton Khaki X-Patrol is the brand's latest aviation timepiece, featuring a sophisticated chronograph, new H21 caliber and 60 hours of power reserve.

The stainless steel case measures 42 mm and has antireflective coating on the sapphire crystal. The dial is available in black or silver-coloured.

The turning bezel provides a number of conversions: distance in miles and kilometres, heights or altitudes in feet and metres, volumes in gallons and litres, and weights in pounds and kilograms. Conversions are made by unscrewing the crown at 9 o'clock and positioning an arrow for the first unit of measurement on the outer bezel, making the equivalent visible on the inner scale.

The three chronograph discs are operated via push buttons at 2 o'clock and 4 o'clock.
The timepiece is water resistant to 100 metres, and is available with a choice of black leather strap, black rubber strap or stainless steel bracelet. The caseback features a propeller-inspired design, showing the movement in action.

The Khaki X-Patrol will be available from June 2012 for approximately £1,080.
