Wenger GST Chrono Watch Review

It’s currently out of stock on Wenger’s website. The GST® Chrono, in black with a black leather strap, seems to be one of the company’s hottest products as of late. The watch is bold and balanced, with three smaller dials arrayed in an inverted triangle in the centre of the piece and an understated Swiss Army logo appears in place of the “12” at the top of the main dial.

It’s simply solid engineering with a touch of style, in the Swiss Army tradition. But it’s a combination that got this particular piece noticed by the powers that be. In fact, Wenger’s GST® Chrono was selected by Esquire Magazine as its “Best of Fall” men’s watch. That’s quite an honour for Wenger, and almost certainly the impetus that’s caused the piece to go out of stock.

Nick Sullivan, Esquire’s Fashion Editor, was the individual bestowed with the power to make such a decision. He chose the GST® Chrono from hundreds of other pieces. As good as his final choice was, his candid comments were even more enlightening. Besides maintaining that “you won’t find a better value,” he went on to point out that this particular Wenger belongs right in the middle between the “fancy dress watch and your crappy digital watch.”

You might even recognise the issue of Esquire; it’s the one with James Franco posing on the cover. Wenger--the “Swiss powerhouse”--makes it appearance on page 94. The section is entitled: “Accessories: The Extra 10 Percent (The Details That Make All the Difference).” In a very fitting manner, there’s a big red arrow pointing directly to the GST® Chrono, “The Watch.” At a retail price of $550, it seems as though Sullivan is right on in his analysis of the piece as a bargain that makes a fantastic statement.
