Oris Carlos Coste Limited Edition IV Watch Review

Oris present the Carlos Coste Limited Edition IV in honour of the free divers bravery and courage.

The launch is perfectly timed for the free divers newest record-breaking challenge! The alliance began in 2006 between Oris and Carlos Coste as in their eyes there is ‘no one better qualified to test watches underwater.’ His achievements in the sport include becoming the first individual to break the 100-metre barrier in the free immersion category and seven years later he swam 150 metres navigation his way through Dos Ojos in a single breath earning a new Guinness World Record for his efforts. To set the scene, Dos Ojos is situated in Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico and formed by a huge underwater cave network; an intense, dangerous and frightening challenge that the expert free diver embraces with ease. Carlos is able to hold his breath for seven and a half minutes, which has landed him the title ‘El Acuaman Crillo’ - the natural waterman’ to us non Venezuelan speakers.

Of course, the timepiece honoured with his name is designed with free diving as its inspiration; as fearless and courageous as the timekeepers muse. His emblem is beautifully engraved on the case back as a nod to the influential figure. To begin the 2,000 piece Limited Edition timekeeper is formed using titanium to ensure the watch is robust and lightweight. The unidirectional rotating top ring is fitted with a white Super-LumiNova minute scale on the black ceramic inlay to provide readability immediately in the dark, murky underwater environment of the expedition. The powerful black dial welcomes applied indices and hands that contain vivid orange Super-LumiNova for legibility and a stylistic contrast encased in an anti-reflective coated sapphire crystal domed glass for minimal glare. The water-resistant level reaches 500 metres to ensure that the watch remains operating whilst performing life threatening, adrealine rushing dives where the watch is his only companion.

Oris proudly explains another feature of the stunning Carlos Coste Limited Edition IV: “Another smart touch is the dark orange dot on the manual helium valve at 3 o’clock, designed to help divers quickly distinguish the valve from the time and date setting crown at 2 o’clock. Inside the watch ticks an automatic movement, which powers a date at 3 o’clock and a small seconds sub-dial between 7 and 9 o’clock. “

Embrace the Oris Carlos Coste Limited Edition IV that is as limitless and brave as its free diving companion.
