Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Gravity Watch Review

Maurice Lacroix has unveiled the limited edition Masterpiece Gravity, the first timepiece to feature an all-silicon assortment.

The Masterpiece Gravity puts its oscillator and assortment at "centre stage" on the dial, and is powered by the Maurice Lacroix automatic manufacture Calibre ML230. The assortment is made entirely in silicon, including the balance staff, pallet lever, pallet staff, escapement wheel and escapement wheel pinion. The number of components has been limited to 188, to provide a clean appearance and enhanced reliability.

"Silicon, a self-lubcricating, glass-like material, is three times lighter than steel," the Swiss brand explains. "The low mass consumes less energy, is more accurate and does not require regular lubrication."

The Masterpiece Gravity has a 43 mm case, and is available in two versions: a Classical model with a stainless steel case; and an Contemporary model with an anthracite PVD finish. A "glass-box" sapphire crystal is domed to magnify the oscillator and assortment.

The hours and minutes are displayed on an off-centre, domed white lacquered dial. The Contemporary model features diamond-cut indexes, and the Classical has Roman numerals. The hands are thermally blued or rhodium plated.

A small seconds display is positioned below, partially over the balance assortment. The bridge is decorated with Clou de Paris or Grand Colimaçon pattern, which is rhodium or black gold treated depending on the model.

The Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Gravity is limited to 250 piece of each version, and will be presented at Baselworld 2014.
