Oris Calibre 111 Watch Review

Oris unveils the Calibre 111 housed within the stunning 2015 Big Crown ProPilot collection.

The breathtaking pilot watch is proud to contain the Calibre 111 movement, which is proudly built in-house and marks a revolutionary moment in Oris’ historical timeline. The innovative movement signifies the beginning of a new phase for the watch brand who have continued to progress and develop since their initial launch in 1904; this year cements their commitment to being recognised as a sophisticated movement innovator.

The Calibre 111 is modelled on the Calibre 110 and continues to present itself as a hand-wound movement with a 10-day reserve and a patented non-linear power reserve indicator. A date function window display is situated at 9 o’clock, which Oris declares is a “trio of complications not seen in a watch before.”

The timepiece aesthetic nods to the Big Crown ProPilot predecessors yet embraces design and technical adjustments to remain fresh and exciting. The coin-edged bezel is influenced by jet engine turbines and the non-linear power reserve indicator echoes an airplane fuel gauge to reinforce the aviation influence. The 44 mm beautifully satin-finished stainless steel case provides an air of elegance and sophistication to the masterpiece

With the crucial understanding that a pilot is required to read the time at a glance the Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 111 has an anti-reflective coating applied to the inside of the sapphire crystal to minimise glare. To improve legibility in restricted lighting the Arabic numerals and hour and minute hands are laced with Super-LumiNova. The genuine Louisiana crocodile strap provides confirmation of the luxurious and sophisticated vision that Oris strives for.

The Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 111 represents Oris’ ethos to create high quality timepieces with functional excellence. It is a vital point for the luxury Swiss brand in their journey in developing a reputation as an excellent movement manufacturer.
