Cannes Film Festival to Show Steve McQueen The Man & Le Mans Documentary

TAG Heuer are proud to announce that their symbolic ambassador, Steve McQueen will take centre stage at the Cannes Film Festival this Saturday 16th May.

The festival that previews new films and documentaries worldwide will show the premiere of Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans. The documentary focuses on the making of the film Le Mans (the famous car racing film) originally released in 1971. Featuring exclusive interviews and unseen footage, the audience witnesses the movie idols driven and complex personality. It was his persistence that ensured the film “Le Mans” would be produced. Steve McQueen’s son, Chad McQueen alongside John McKenna and Gabriel Clarke will be present at Cannes to present the interesting documentary.

To mark this special occasion let's explore the Monaco watch that was inspired by McQueen’s legacy. TAG Heuer can relate to the actor with his ability to never crack under pressure and how he defined himself beyond standards. The Monaco chronograph possesses a stylish retro feel of the 60’s with the square dial shape with matching counters positioned at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock; a nod to the era in which the piece was first created. The cool blue shade with red dial hands add to the retro look also. The black alligator skin strap was fastened tightly around McQueen’s wrist whilst filming Le Mans one year after it’s creation making the timepiece an icon! The original Monaco watch revolutionised watchmaking by introducing the first square water resistance case that housed the Chromatic Calibre 11; also debuting the world’s first square automatic chronograph. Today, the TAG Heuer continue to showcase the exquisite piece yet allow for the design to remain relevant with the brands technical advancements. The current classic Monaco is more powerful and daring with a Calibre 12 movement exposed in the sapphire crystal caseback.
