Oris Tycho Brahe Limited Edition Watch Review

Indulge in the new Limited-Edition Tycho Brahe timepiece from Oris.

The timepiece takes inspiration from the 16th-century Danish nobleman and astronomer - Tycho Brahe - to design a truly exquisite masterpiece. Brahe’s precise astronomical and planetary observations were cemented in the Tychonic system. His theory announced that the Sun and Moon orbited the Earth and the remaining planets orbited the Sun. The Tychonic system of geoheliocentrism inspired physicists such as Sir Issac Newton when formulating his theory of gravity; a truly influential gentleman within astronomy.

The design that proudly features his name includes a Pointer Moon function, which the Oris engineers produced in-house; a challenging rare feature that the expert team solved effortlessly. The Pointer Moon function shows the phases of the moon over the 29.5-day lunar cycle with the central hand acting as a marker that points to a gauge that sits on the outside of the dark blue dial. The hand moves forward every half day to indicate the phases of the moon with a more precise reading than a traditional moon phase display. As a direct reflection of Brahe’s work the case back is carefully engraved with a drawing of the Tychonic system into the 42mm stainless steel timepiece.

The Oris Tycho Brahe Limited Edition is practical with a water resistant to 100m, sapphire crystal domed on both sides with anti-reflective coating and Nickel hands with Super-LumiNova inlays to enable for legibility in restricted lighting. The timepiece fastens with a calf skin leather strap with croco pattern (available with a metal bracelet) and stainless steel folding clasp.

To incorporate the Pointer Moon feature the in-house engineers were require to rethink and restructure the base movement. The outcome showcases that the Oris brand continually brings innovation to the watch industry at an accessible cost. Oris strives to develop functional and creative features that have a strong purpose and practical essence. The innovative timepiece is limited to 500 pieces and protected by an exquisite wooden box.
