'F1 in Schools' Winning Team Sponsored by Casio Watches

Casio has invested in the future stars of Formula 1 by sponsoring the winning team of students at the 'F1 in Schools World Finals 2014', a global engineering challenge.

The six students from Robert Mays School in Hampshire, England, worked together to design, manufacture and test a scale gas-powered F1 car. Their car had to compete against others at the World Final, held in Abu Dhabi at the end of 2014.

Operating under the team name Colossus F1, the pupils were also required to prepare a business plan, devise a suitable budget and raise sponsorship to take part in the competition.

The team's journey to the final was proudly supported by Casio watches, a brand well known to the world of F1 as Official Timing Partner of the Infiniti Red Bull Racing Team.

"It’s a real privilege to be involved at the ground level with such talented and inspiring young engineers," said Tim Gould, Casio UK Head of Marketing, speaking ahead of the final. "The students at Robert Mays clearly have a passion for what they do, and their latest design looks fantastic and works brilliantly. F1 is an important proving ground for many Casio products as it demands the very highest levels of engineering and timing precision. The skills required when designing solutions for this most demanding of sports will stand the team in great stead, whatever they chose to do next."

More 20 million students from 40 countries competed worldwide in their hopes to reach the F1 in Schools World Finals.

The finals saw 38 teams from 24 countries competing for the title. The Colossus F1 team put in an outstanding performance throughout, setting a new F1 in Schools World Record and winning two other awards as well as the overall prize.

"I'm speechless, I think I need to pinch myself as I just can’t believe this has happened," said Vicky Waterfield, Team Manager of Colossus F1. "We really didn’t think we'd win as there have been so many great teams competing. We have had an amazing experience and to win this has topped it. We've worked so hard, putting in eight hours at school and then another eight hours afterwards, but it really paid off."
